About our classroom
Cound class brings together Key Stage 1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2). Our teachers are Mrs Ross and Miss Wilde. Mrs Evans (HLTA) teaches PSHE on Friday afternoon. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Case, Mrs Bennison and Miss Fereday.
Our mixed-age classes allow us to teach according to each child’s stage rather than their age. We’re fortunate to have a spacious classroom with a covered outdoor area, allowing us to learn outside all year round and whatever the weather.
At Cound, our priority is to ensure every child—whatever their personality, interests, or needs—enjoys a happy and positive start to school life. We aim to nurture a lifelong love of learning and a curiosity about the world around them.
We’re passionate about providing rich, hands-on experiences that help children develop the skills they need beyond the classroom. Creativity is at the heart of what we do, whether through art, music, or drama, and we make the most of every opportunity to be outside. Our dedicated Forest School area gives children regular opportunities to explore, play, and discover in nature—building confidence, resilience, and a sense of wonder about the world.
What your child will learn
Each week, our learning focuses on phonics, early reading, number fluency, and hands-on science, with lots of chances for conversation, play, and creative expression. Activities are carefully planned to ensure every child can take part at a level that suits their individual needs.
Our daily routine stays consistent to give children a sense of security and familiarity, helping them build confidence and independence over time.
- Early morning activities to prepare the children for the day.
- Phonics and spelling sessions
- Rhyme time and story time
- Opportunities for outdoor play and topic-based learning
- Whole school/class assembly
Home learning
In KS1, children will receive a short home-learning task, where appropriate, to reinforce what they’ve been learning in class. We also encourage all children to enjoy daily reading time with you—your child will bring home books carefully matched to their reading stage. Some children may also be given phonics-based tasks, which we recommend practising together.
